Statistics show that approximately 5 children a minute, under the age of 5, die from malnutrition. Food Plant Solutions is taking an ‘EVERY CHILD MATTERS’ approach to this fact. One of the solutions to malnutrition is as simple as growing the right food plants in the right places.

Our mission is to create a world where no one, no matter where they live, has to go to bed hungry or suffer the lifelong impacts of malnutrition.
Food Plant Solutions (FPS) was formed in 2007 after Rotarian Buz Green AM, of the Rotary Club of Devonport North in Tasmania (D9830) recognised Bruce French AO database’s potential to combat food insecurity and end hunger and malnutrition.Â
A collaboration was formed that began as ‘Help the Hungry’, followed by ‘Learn Grow’, and finally Food Plant Solutions.
A Solution that Ends Malnutrition
FPS has had an unwavering focus on empowering communities to combat malnutrition and food insecurity by encouraging the cultivation and use of locally available, nutritious, and resilient food plants. By specialising at extracting information from the Food Plants International database, FPS tailor educational materials for communities.Â
These resources explain how to grow and use the plants but also the key nutrients they contain, and how the human body uses them; enabling caregivers to make informed choices about what to grow and eat to nourish their families.
This innovative approach, grounded in local resources and knowledge, has made it a unique and effective model for addressing global hunger challenges. The organization’s work exemplifies Rotary’s ethos of service above self, blending scientific expertise with community-driven solutions
